Bedtime Snack

Busy week. Busy day. Just got home from helping Brian's mother with some pictures for Grandma's memorial service. Exhausted and hungry. This is just the bedtime snack...granny smith apples, crackers and muenster cheese. I'm going to indulge a bit with some internet surfing before I call it a night. Fueling up for tomorrow - Conference night. Going to be a LONG day!

Progress

It was one of those days... From the time my feet hit the floor this morning I was going a mile a minute and I still haven't slowed down. My accomplishment of the day was getting these babies edited and printed off. I haven't had a moment to do it and boy does it feel good to have my progress reports done! SO much work! 

Gone but not Forgotton

Today we lost an amazing woman. Today we lost our grandma, our inspiration, our pillar. Grandma Charmayne passed away this afternoon, peacefully. She had been fighting so hard since last May's surgery and subsequent operations. Her weakened body had fought the good fight, but she was ready to be with Jesus. Grandma taught us a lot about how to live. Give generously, serve God, serve others who are in need and family always comes first. It's never easy to let go of someone you love. Today I try to think on all I have gained from knowing Charmayne Singer. I think of the legacy she has left in us that we can pass onto to our children who will never know her. Love you always and forever, Grandma. We will meet again in another life.

Surprise 1

This right here is surprise #1 of our santa gifts from my mom-in-law for the year. For the afternoon we had an escalade limo and a cool driver named James. Our first stop was McDonalds, then Target, then Forest Park, then Faust Park and then DQ. Pretty fun afternoon.

Our church is in it's 4th week of a teaching series on justice. It's been very enlightening to learn about what the bible has to say about justice and how it applies in our lives. Tonight's teaching was on justice in the home. Powerful, meaningful stuff.

I'm cooking one of my favorite dinners this evening - fried chicken! No matter how many times I make this dish, it's always enjoyable. I love the smell of frying chicken. This time I added some sundried tomato and basil spices to the flour. Serving the chicken with a spinach salad, corn on the cob and mashed garlic potatoes. YUM.

Epic Accomplishments

President's Day means no school! Holiday Mondays are the bomb. So far this school year I've had a project of sorts to get done on my days off. Today's project was more fun than work. I set out to start (and finish) my wedding album. Mission complete! What's even better is last night I finished 2010's album too! I am kicking butt and taking names in the scrapbooking department! Woo hoo! It feels great to be making progress in this area finally!

I have to admit, it wasn't the best day. In fact, it was a pretty awful day. Brian's grandmother is back in ICU in critical condition. I also was informed today that there is no position for me at my school next year. There is a position somewhere. Until then I am dubbed a "involuntary transfer". Yuck. Trying to find something to be thankful for and this is it. A tub full of bubbles, a glass full of wine (Chardonnay) and a good book.

This, my friends, is a Chevy Volt. There are only about 7,000 of these puppies on the road, so we consider ourselves quite lucky that we had the privilege to spot one today. Our power went out around dinner time this evening (so convenient!) and so we headed to the McDonalds drive-thru and stumbled upon this rare creature.

Most people have a mom. I had a mom. She was everything you could want in a mom and even more. February 13 is her birthday. She would have been 60 today. This is a picture of one of my favorite framed photos of mom. She sits on our entertainment center, watching over us. Today I honor her memory.

I sort of invented this dish tonight. I've had no time for cooking as of late and tonight I decided to try something new. I wrapped bacon around chicken breasts and then topped them with tomato and cheese. I drizzled the creation with honey mustard. Baked it in the oven. The finished product was pretty yum. I served it with couscous and a salad. I wish I had more time right now for cooking and trying new recipes!

Happy Friday! Huxley decided to powder his nose this morning... actually he stood too close to mommy while she was powdering her nose! The funny thing was, it didn't seem to phase him. Huxley loves to get on the sink as I get ready in the morning. Most days it's annoying but it is nice to have company once in awhile.

I'm not going to lie. I am pretty darn excited about my first Valentines Day as a married woman. I'm not sure why, because Valentines Day has never really held much significance for me. I'm not sure when it became exciting. Brian and I do many small things throughout the year to celebrate each other and our life, I guess Valentines Day is just an excuse to buy gifts? This photo is a shot of the card I plan on giving him along with his gift. I am quite excited to give him his gift - which I can disclose after he's opened it! Fun stuff.

Today my teammates and I, along with 10 brave parents, took 70 six and seven-year olds to the St. Louis symphony. We saw Mozart's Magical Flute. When asked about seeing one of Mozart's pieces, one of my students replied, "Yeah, we are going to see that but I thought that guy was dead!"  There were actors and singers and the students did an amazing job! I should also add that this photo is poor because no photography is allowed inside the hall. Oops...

Man oh man, it was a day! I had big plans to go to the laundry mat tonight but when things didn't get better afterschool I decided it'd be best to just kick back and veg out this evening. I can celebrate the fact that my portfolio is done for school and that deserves some relaxing, right? So here's the literature I plan on enjoying - Gargoyle (my current novel) and The New Yorker via Kindle. Here's to a better day tomorrow.

This shelf showcases a few things that are most near and dear to me. The figure with the wings is a symbol of my mother and the eternal place she has in my life. Above that is a gift from precious friends currently living in Spain. I am thinking of my  best friend Cynthia today. I miss the ability to meet her for Starbucks, or even talk to her in real time. I am thankful for the friendship we have and look forward to it only being long-term for the short-term.

Definitely my most favorite NFL football game of the year - the Super Bowl. This year we joined our friends the Chandlers at their place for the festivities. I experimented with a jello shot recipe which was a hit. Jess made all sorts of delicious goodies, as you see above.

Groupon is my favorite thing right now. Brian and I had $20 worth of pizza tonight for $10. It was a cheap but delicious date. Sometimes you just need to get out of the house and eat some place other than McDonalds! We went to Fortel's Pizza Den. Brian had BBQ chicken pizza and I had spinach, chicken, feta and mozzarella. Super yum.

February has arrived. I'm not sure where January went! I got our class calendar all changed this morning. Believe it or not, it doesn't officially become the new month until this is updated :) Seriously, the kids can't move in if this isn't accurate. LOL. Gotta LOVE 6 and 7 year olds.
