We got VIP treatment this morning when Brian went to a new dentist for the first time. Not only did we get a reserved parking spot but this sign greeted us as we walked in and there was a free gift! Definitely felt welcome. Unfortunately this guy had to refer Brian elsewhere to get a tooth pulled. But, grateful we have dental insurance!! God is good. All the time.

This is my 3rd read of the summer. This is exciting to me because I figured Pillars of the Earth would be about it (it was 1,000 pages). I am on a Margaret Atwood kick right now. I am loving her writing style.

Trivial...To You

Seemingly trivial to you but really a big deal around our home. This darn faucet in our tub has leaked and leaked since we moved in. They've been out to fix it time and again and sometime in May we gave up with calling maintenance about it. BUT when they were here investigating our A/C "issues" they made a connection between the hot water leak and our high electric bill. Apparently with a constant leak of hot water, the water heater is working hard -DUH. They fixed the leak (again) and cleaned a few coils on the A/C. Crossing my fingers for a lower bill next month!

Dexter

Brian and I watched a lot of Dexter when we were dating. We've not really watched any since those days and have found ourselves at least 3 seasons behind. While at Blockbuster tonight we decided to get season 4 and have a little marathon.

It's 12:01 and Brian and I are going to bed. It occurred to me how much I love ending my day like this and how much I love waking up to him each day! I don't want to take these little things for granted. I feel so blessed. 

No Doubt, It's a Drought

Yes, that little hand on the thermostat is pushing 90. Why, Heather, that's not a simple joy or a grand escape! you might say... This is true. One day though, we will look back on his memory and giggle, I'm sure. Our electric bill was entirely too high this past month. It's expected with the 3-digit temperatures almost every day but something's just not right. Until we figure it out we are going to try our darndest to cut that bill in half. That means running the A/C half the time. We are so conscious of our energy usage and our bill's never even come close to what it was. Thus we have a mystery to solve and a temporary fix in place. It's 89 degrees right now at 10:45 PM. I am grateful though for a lovely place to live and of course the lovely husband and cat I get to live here with.

I burned this candle today in my mom's memory. When it comes to this day of the year every year I am not sure what to do to celebrate the amazing woman, mom, sister, friend that she was...This year I lit a candle for her. It's been 12 years. All I can do now is live in a way that makes her proud. Live by faith and be a wonderful wife and someday a mom like her.

This here is Hal. Hal is an owl. Actually I don't know what his name is but he sure looks like he could be a Hal. Doesn't he? Today we went to the World Bird Sanctuary which happens to be in Valley Park, MO. There were all kinds of feathered friends there. It was free and fun. I'm all about finding free activities.

4 Year Journey

4 years ago today Brian and I made our relationship facebook official! So that means today is our 4 year anniversary of dating. It's been quite a journey. I don't know that I would be where I am (emotionally, professionally, spiritually) if it wasn't for Brian. I know I certainly wouldn't be where I am geographically. Each day is better than the last. I was surprised by this card today.

There is one thing I like about laundry day and that is big gulps. 711 is right across the street and I usually treat myself to a soda. I try to drink soda only 1 maybe 2 a week. Today was a Dr. Pepper. YUM!

WI River

The last activity we did in the Dells was the riverwalk. While we spent our time at a resort right on the river, the view was mostly blocked by fences and trees. I was happy to see the river as we walked this morning. Beautiful. 

Dangerous Sports

What you see here is a crisis. While dad looks pretty relaxed, he actually has suffered a dislocated finger. This is the second dislocation injury that occurred on vacation. Brian led the pack on the injuries by dislocating his shoulder during laser tag. We got dad to the hospital and got him fixed up. At least it happened on our last night there.

Putt Putt

Mom got us all day miniature golf passes today. I can't believe that I am so lame I've never played mini golf! We had a blast playing 3 or 4 times. I have to say, I wasn't too bad for a novice!

We're On A Boat

We took a fun 2 hour boat tour today of the beautiful Wisconsin River and the Dells. We had 2 stops on the tour. This was the second stop. I forget the name of this rock but it was influential in making the Dells famous.

Today we made our trip to Wisconsin Dells with the Koenig bunch. I downloaded Yahtzee on my Kindle for the car ride and I can't tell you how much it was worth that $2.99!

We were a bit conflicted about how to celebrate the 4th this year. The usual thing around here was cancelled due to the burn warning in effect. We toyed with the idea of going downtown but decided against it due to traffic and parking annoyances. We ended up on the roof of the parking garage at Ameristar. It was a nice show.

Poolside Improvements

As you can see, even while relaxing at the pool I am hard at work to improve my instructional practices! I started my graduate classes this week so this lovely book gets to spend time with me down at the pool. Love Marzano and so far I am enjoying this course. I am also taking Current Trends in Edu Technology which should be good also.

Bone Wedding

Today we attended a cousin's wedding... I can't say we really knew the bride or groom but weddings are always entertaining and special. They had these cute bags at the table and everyone got to fill them with candy from a candy bar - brilliant! Unfortunately I didn't know when to say when with the candy and got an awful tummy ache.

There's a fairly new burger joint in Chesterfield we checked out this evening. It's called Smash Burger. It's a quasi gourmet burger experience. Brian loved his burger with onion strings, bbq sauce on PRETZEL BREAD and I loved my chicken avocado club! I love trying new places.
